If God is all good, all loving, and all powerful — why is there so much sin, suffering, and evil in the world?
It's the hardest question Christians and skeptics share. This week Pastor Kent Keller takes it on from 1 Peter 4:12–19.

"Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you." — 1 Peter 4:12
Peter's first word to suffering Christians wasn't a strategy. It was a posture. Don't be surprised. The road of faith is not a road around suffering. It is a road that passes through it.

1 Peter 4:12 (ESV)
"Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you."
The Bible was written by suffering people, to suffering people. Peter wrote this to early Christians scattered across the Roman Empire — believers being insulted, beaten, and sometimes killed for the name of Jesus.
And he says: don't be surprised.

"There are no maverick molecules in the universe."
Ben Sasse — recently diagnosed with stage-four pancreatic cancer — was asked if his faith had been shaken. His answer became one of Pastor Kent Keller's anchor lines this Sunday.
Not one molecule. Not the cell that turned cancerous. Not the drunk driver who ran the red light. Not the news that gutted you on Tuesday afternoon. Nothing in your story is outside God's care, and nothing in your story is wasted.

Suffering. Judgment. Glory.
The pattern that runs through the whole biblical story is always the same. It is the cross-shaped pattern of the Christian life. And Jesus walked it first — so that you would not walk it alone.

When you don't know what to do, hold these four lines.
Andrew Murray's catechism for hard seasons — four anchors that Pastor Kent Keller closes this Sunday's sermon with.
Swipe → 1. God brought me here. 2. He will keep me here in His love. 3. He will make the trial a blessing. 4. And in His good time, He will bring me out again.
